On Saturday 19th November, 2011, at approx 18:20hrs, South Barwon SES Volunteers were called to a Car Accident, with persons trapped, in Regent St, Whittington.
South Barwon SES Media Liaison Officer Scott Clark said once crews arrived on scene, they were met with a vehicle that had collided with power pole, with the vehicles driver’s side bearing the full impact.
SES and CFA Rescue crews used the “Jaws of Life” and other rescue equipment to remove the roof of the vehicle, and extricate the casualty, before being transported to hospital.
“Drivers need to be aware of the weather conditions, and ensure they drive accordingly to reduce the chance of having an accident” Mr Clark said.
Meanwhile, less than 24 hours later, South Barwon SES Volunteers were again called to attend another serious road crash.
Two cars had collided outside Geelong East Primary School, on Boundary Rd, East Geelong at approx. 12:20pm.
The result of this accident saw one person trapped in their vehicle, while SES and CFA crews worked to remove the roof, and the driver’s side of the vehicle, before extricating the casualty.
“With the road toll for November well above the same time last year, drivers again need to heed the warnings, and take care on the roads to ensure the safety of all road users”
