One rescued after car rollover in Highton
24/11/2011 - Operations
On Thursday 24th November, 2011, at 1:45am, South Barwon SES volunteers were called to a car accident with persons trapped on the Geelong Ring Rd, in Highton.
Once on scene SES crews were met with a car that had rolled several times before coming to rest on its wheels, trapping one occupant.
South Barwon SES Spokesman Scott Clark said the vehicle sustained significant damage to the roof on the drivers side.
“SES and CFA Rescue crews have had to remove the roof and the drivers side of the vehicle using the “Jaws of Life” to assist Ambulance crews to extricate the patient” Mr Clark said.
“Certainly the damage to the vehicle was severe, Our rescue crews, together with CFA have worked for almost 30 mins to free the patient from the wreckage”
The South bound lanes of the Geelong Ring Road were closed while the Rescue was being performed.
“November has seen numerous serious road accidents in the Region. With the holiday season just around the corner drivers need to be aware of their surroundings and drive to the conditions to ensure the safety of all road users.” Mr Clark said.
2 SES Recue trucks with 11 volunteers were responded to the accident.
They remained on scene for approx. 1 hour assisting Police with Lighting.
