Car vs Overpass Hamlyn Heights
30/01/2012 - Operations
On Monday 30th January, at approx. 12:00 HRS, SES Volunteers were called to a car accident with persons trapped on the Geelong Ring Rd and the Midland Hwy overpass.
Once on scene SES were met with a single car that had collided with the overpass, trapping the driver in the vehicle.
South Barwon SES Media Liaison Officer Scott Clark said “SES and CFA Rescue crews worked for approx. 20 mins to free the driver from the wreckage.”
SES and CFA have had to use the “Jaws of Life” to remove the driver’s side of the vehicle to assist Ambulance Victoria in extricating the patient.
“With the weather around the Geelong Region becoming quite inclement, SES are advising motorists to take extra care on the roads, and drive to the conditions to ensure you arrive safely at your destination” Mr Clark said.
Rescue Trucks from Corio and South Barwon SES were responded to this incident.
Crews remained on scene to assist Police with traffic control.
